Description: August 1991. Crown Heights, Brooklyn. A Hasidic man's car jumps a curb and kills a seven-year-old black child. Hours later, a Hasidic student is stabbed to death in what appeared to be a retaliatory act. A city riots, exploding in racial tension.
Writer and Actor Anna Deavere Smith ("The West Wing") gives stunning performances as she sets course on an emotional re-telling of this tragedy. She searches for the elusive truth among the adversaries, victims and eyewitnesses in this moving collage based upon verbatim excerpts from interviews conducted by Ms. Smith. Directed by the acclaimed and Tony Nominated Broadway director of "Jelly's Last Jam" and "Angels in America", George C. Wolfe, Ms. Smith acts the role of each interviewee.
